Hancock Park

Over 100 years ago, where massive field of oil derricks were owned by the Hancock Family, the residential subdivision of Hancock Park was developed by Major Hancock’s son, G. Allan Hancock. This gated community of sprawling mansions and towering shade trees was first developed in 1911. Tucked between the highly desirable neighborhoods of Koreatown, Mid-Wilshire, Miracle Mile, and East Hollywood, its original, monumental concrete gates still stand on Wilshire Blvd.

Outstanding architects of the era like Wallace Neff and Llyod Wright designed some of the palatial single-family residences, in various Period Revival styles.  Encompassing a variety of styles everything from English Tudor, French Normandy, and Spanish Colonial, to Mediterranean, Monterey and American Colonial Revival. Many of the homes are set back 50 feet from the street and include side driveways that lead though a Porte cochere, to a rear garage.

Surrounding the Wilshire Country Club, the area includes Windsor Square and Larchmont Village, which features a charming shopping and dining strip. Synagogues on La Brea Avenue serve the Orthodox Jewish community. Some well-known Hancock Park residents have included millionaire Howard Hughes, entertainers Mae West and Nat King Cole. Still an affluent neighborhood today, Hancock Park preserves its character and charm, with many homes of historic value.  A magical upscale residential community surrounded by mature trees on rolling and well-manicured yards. Hancock Park is one of the oldest and best-preserved neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
