First offering: City of Los Angeles Cultural Historic Monument #380, The Kallis-Sharlin Residence, 1946, by renowed architect Rudolph Schindler. This remarkable architectural home with modernist lines features later additions by Josef Van der Kar, and L.A. Ten architect Leroy Miller, F.A.I.A.
Art and music have always thrived in this vibrant space originally designed for artist Mischa Kallis as her main residence and art studio.
In 1960, Kallis sold the home directly to his cousin Jacqueline and her husband William Sharlin. Jacqueline was a noted concert pianist who had performed at the famed Carnegie Hall.
With the love of entertaining and a growing family, the Sharlin’s needed more space and appointed Schindler’s associate Josef Van der Kar to skillfully convert an open patio between the living quarters and art studio to an entertainment/family room.
They later hired Leroy Miller to convert the art studio to a new master bedroom and bathroom.
Today, the structure stands as an outstanding architectural home with a bright space ideal for entertaining.
